Dallas is a dynamic city that is home to one of the largest urban centers of the four most populous metropolitan areas in the United States. The city currently holds the third-largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the nation and ranks as the sixth largest economy in the United Sates, (2013 real GDP of $448 Billion.) Dallas is rated as a “Beta Plus” world city by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group & Network, and is ranked 14th in world rankings of GDP by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Founded in 1841 and formally incorporated as a city in February 1856, Dallas developed into the modern city that it is today by becoming the financial center for the Oil and agricultural industries during the industrial revolution of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Dallas has continued its tradition of embracing the modernization of the city into the present day by developing one of the country’s strongest industrial and financial sectors and constructing the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport which serves as a major inland port (one of the largest and busiest airports in the world.
